I like to have a fresh deck and keep it. You do this to get rid of any negitive energy in the deck. There’s many ways to do it depending on the magickian. I just do a pentagram ritual, thelemite style with my ring of protection and do my own thing(I seem to evolve over the years in my methods). I keep my deck(a Thoth one of course) in a magickal wooden box. I don’t let anyone play with my deck, it just holds my energy. If I feel the deck gets contaminated I buy a new deck or at least repurify it. I like to keep my deck next to my Kabbalah books and other holy books. I have my own religion but it is a form of a Thelemite with heavy Kabbalah influence, and I like to keep my vibs up with chakra meditation. We are energy. So I can’t give a full exsplaination but you can check out those key words if you want to learn more.

It creates a sense of sacredness… makes them feel “special” and creates a “bond.” All of this helps to make the reader feel more comfrotable with the cards which allows them to open up intuitively to their messages.
Lots of different rituals can be used. Jsut about any cleansing or blessigns ritual, depdning on the readers spiritual preferences.

How to turn over Tarot Cards?
When placing Tarot cards down in a layout, do you deal from the deck by lifting the card toward you and then placing it down OR do you lift the card to the left/right so that the card is placed down exactly as it facing (up/down) as it is in the deck? The card will change its direction – whether it is in reverse or upright position if you deal in one way or the other, which of course changes its meaning. Please help! I can’t find my answer any instructions I’ve researched on the internet.

Answer by Isis
Hi. I am a long time reader and I always lift the card toward me. I am the reader. The cards are speaking to me. They are telling me their story. Therefore, they speak directly to me as they appear from the deck. Welcome to the wonderful world of Tarot. :)

If you take and start the Major Arcana from the Fool (1), to the World (22) and lay them all side by side, you will see a story appear. From this you will also see a river running thru them as well. And that is what tarot is; it is a story of ones life. And how would you read a story to someone? From left to right. Like a book, you lay your cards down as that of flipping pages. You also read the cards as they are, do not turn them over or make them upright position. Each card has a certain meaning, whether it be upright or reversed. It is for you to decide what it means.

I take the cards and put them down on the table or floor or whatever I’m doing the reading on, and turn the cards left to right.

If you are using Tarot cards as an oracle, you may be more inclined to read card meanings and spreads. But if using Tarot Cards as a tool for Psychic Ability you would be less likely to hold to any hard and fast guide lines. I’m a profession psychic and use Tarot Cards in a random way. In 25 years of professional readings I’ve never used any ‘meanings, spreads or reversals’ of tarot cards from any books.

So if you want to develop ‘Psychic Ability’ throw the books and guidelines away and let the images inspire you. But you may need to try the Rider Waite or another imaged deck.

I believe we are all psychic, but for the majority the gift or the belief has been long knocked out of them. Educated out is another way of looking at it. Many professional psychics have grown up in a psychic friendly environment. Perhaps a grand-parent or parent with the knowledge has helped bring the extra sense out in the open and encouraged its use. But there are as many practicing psychics who have not had the benefit of caring psychic guidance and who have still managed to develop and hone this natural extra sense. The Psychic Sense.

To tap in to it more you can go to my free develop-psychic-ability page here: http://www.psychic-junkie.com/develop-psychic-ability.html

But on the other hand, if you want to use the Tarot as an oracle, a form of divination that needs no real ‘psychic ability’, then keep the books and use the meanings and spreads if you prefer.

Here is a free download demo for a great Tarot program. To keep the size of the demo manageable it contains the Rider/Waite deck, the actual program will have 10 complete decks. This Demo version of Tarot is a full working copy for 30 days. So you get 30 days to study meanings and spreads! http://www.free-tarot-download-demo.wotsnext.com

okay a question about my new tarot cards?
i just bought some tarot card from the local book shop but i’ve been having second thoughts about them ever since. i tried to use them once but its just i don’t like the artwork and that dislike distracts me.
is it bad that i don’t like them like that? where can i buy better ones that anyone would like to recommend?
also is it necessary to ground yourself after using tarot cards?

Answer by Liberal AssKicker
I use pinnocle cards, myself. They work just as well.

(Come on! Aren’t you smarter than a pack of hardened paper? Do you REALLY need some inanimate objects to tell you how to live or is it just a party favor?)

Answer by Miss Nikki
its not bad it just means you don’t have a connection with them. i would google pagan shops in your area, if you live in the denver area message me and i can point you in the right direction.

i’ve never grounded myself but i’m kinda new to the religion.

Answer by Ishtar
It really does work better if you have a set of cards with art you like. Most stores that sell them have sample cards you can look at to find a set with pictures you can relate to. There are also web sites that have pictures of cards to look at.

I always ground before and after reading, and clear the cards in between readings if I’m doing several people one after another.

Answer by Young Buck
I have several friends who use tarot cards, I don’t follow them, but from my understanding, the best deck to purchase is the one that “screams” at you, like it says “Hey! Use me you twit”! That was the explanation I got. My best guess would be to find a Pagan shop of sorts, or even online. And grounding, though I’m not familiar with the terminology, my friends say they ground themselves after they use there decks. Again, this is second hand information, so it may not be as accurate as others here.
